The Great Contingent Book I: The Acclimants

The Great Contingent is the story of an interstellar war fought between two titanic factions- The Yakhel, an ancient and well-established alliance of civilizations from our local galactic neighborhood, and the Sourein Auwelin, an insurgent and seemingly unstoppable military dictatorship hailing from a dark corner of the Local Group.

In the middle of it all is young Andres, a tween from the Maryland suburbs who was touring the alien world and acclimatizing to the new reality of Humanity ascending to the intergalactic community when the war began. With bombs falling and his closest friends suffering, he agrees to join a clandestine force of fellow youths, whose mission is to find out why the Sourein Auwelin invaded.

Through his own memories of First Contact and compounding tragedies in his family, Andres and the other twelve persons on the team discover that there's more to the Yakhel's motivations, and the Sourein Auwelin's zeal, than they could've ever expected. In the end, could reality itself be up for grabs?
